Isaniwa Yukiya

伊佐庭如矢(いさにわ ゆきや)
Isaniwa Yukiya became the first mayor of Dogo Yunomachi, in 1890. He devoted his intense passion to the construction of the Dogo Onsen (Dogo Hot Spring) building, overcoming many difficulties to see it completed in April 1894. The master builder of the Dogo Onsen building was Sakamoto Matahachiro, a castle carpenter, who helped Isaniwa Yukiya complete the project by incorporating the best aspects of Western architecture while simultaneously making the most of traditional Japanese architectural techniques, such as those used in the construction of castles. He retired from the position of mayor in 1902, after his term expired, and then spent the rest of his life enjoying the refined arts of poetry and the tea ceremony. Isaniwa Yukiya died in September 1908.
