timeline of Kato Yoshiaki (1563- 1631)
1563(Eiroku 6)-Yoshiaki was born in Mikawa no Kuni(the present day Aichi) 1575(Tensho 3)-Hashiba Hideyoshi discovered Yoshiaki’s talent. Yoshiaki became a page to Hashiba Hidekatsu. and named himself Kato.
1583(Tensho 11)-At the battle between Hideyoshi and Shibata Katsuie. Yoshiaki made an extraordinary contribution as one of the seven excallent commanders “”Shichi-hon-yari(seven lancers) of Shizugatake”” , and was awarded 3,000 koku pareels of about 540,000 liter of rice.
Yoshiaki continuously served Hideyoshi diligently as a director retainer.
1595(Bunroku 4)-Yoshiaki’s territory was changed to IyoMasaki with 60,000 koku parcels of 10.8 million liter of rice. After Hideyoshi’s death Yoshiaki served Tokugawa Ieyasu and fouget so well at the Battle of Sekigahara. and awarded Iyo Province with 200,000 koku parcels or 36 million liter of rice in 1601(Keicho 6). 1602(Keicho 7)-Yoshiaki started construction of Matsuyama Castle, and moved his residence to Matsuyama from Masaki in 1603. As a lord of Masaki Castle for 6 years and Matsuyama Castle for 26 years,Yoshiaki took initiatives for the development of rice fields by improving the irrigation system from Shigenobu River and Ishite River. which contributed to the stable livelihood of people of the domain.
1627(kanei 4)-Yoshiaki was transferred to Aizu (the present day northern part of Japan such as Aomori and Iwate) and was granted a 400,000 koku parcels or 72 million liter of rice when he was 65 years old.
1631(Kanei 8)-Yoshiaki died at the age of 69 in the residence of Aizu domain in Edo Sakurada(the present day around Kasumigaseki, tokyo) on September 12th.
